Celebrity Worship Turns Tragic

A young female fan of Hong Kong star Andy Lau has recently experienced both the highest and lowest points in her life. After finally receiving the chance to meet her long-time idol, she also received word of her father's death. There has been a public outcry of anger towards the girl, particularly from Chinese netizens. She returned to the mainland Wednesday night with her mother, but refused to claim her father's body.

Andy Lau has released a statement saying he was shocked to hear the news and urged his fans to be rational in order to avoid a repeat of this tragedy.

Yang Lijuan, a 28-year-old girl from northwestern China's Gansu Province, became a huge fan of Andy Lau 13 years ago. From that moment, the only thing she cared about in life was to meet her idol. She quit school, wrote letters, and spent many years watching the star's music videos. Yang even made public attempts to get close to him, two times in Hong Kong and once in Beijing, but both times was disappointed.

Andy Lau, one of the most famous Hong Kong stars, has had a brilliant and legendary career in both the music and movie industries, and is considered one of the most recognizable icons for Chinese people. Yang once said if she could not intimately meet Lau, she would never marry and lose the will to live.

Yang Qinji, the girl's father, was a 68-year-old retired middle school teacher who supported the entire family with his pension of 1,900 yuan per month. Her mother was unable to work due to poor health. Her parents tried to persuade her to give up the quest, but after these efforts failed, her father decided instead to help the girl realize her dreams at any cost.

They sold almost everything, including their apartment; when this was not enough, her father tried to sell a kidney but was rejected by the hospital. He then borrowed high-interest loans totaling 11,300 yuan to cover the family's travels to Hong Kong.

Previously, Andy Lau had openly rebuked the girl in a TV interview after he learned about the situation. He claimed what she had been doing -- dragging her family into a desperate condition -- was "not right, normal, natural, or filial." Because of this, Lau refused to see the girl.

However, Yang Lijuan insisted she was not an ungrateful person. To clarify the misunderstandings and restore her image in the star's heart, the girl and her family came to Hong Kong for the third time last week, and finally managed to meet the superstar at a fan event on Sunday with the help of Andy Lau's Hong Kong fan club.

But her father became furious after he was informed that his daughter wouldn't get a chance to spend enough time to talk privately with the star about her feelings for him. Yang Qinji jumped into the sea early Monday morning while his wife and daughter were still asleep in a fast food restaurant. He was rescued by the coast guard, but died later in the hospital. His last wish, expressed in a 12 page letter, was for Andy Lau to see his daughter again.

Lau's reps denounced the accusation and showed three photographs as proof the pop star did spend time with the girl. They offered some help on the day the tragedy occurred and expressed hopes that the family would return to their hometown to start life anew.

"Who do you think you are, Andy Lau?" The father protested in his letter, saying the reason why he committed suicide was because he was not satisfied with the way Any Lau treated his daughter. He blamed all the tragedies and his death on Andy Lau and told the star he would not rest in peace until his daughter spent time again with him.

"Andy Lau ... you are selfish and hypocritical ... my daughter has wasted her adolescence and we are living in heavy debt ... aren't you guilty for this?" 

It was reported that due to the incident, Andy Lau has cancelled a scheduled film shoot for his part in the epic Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon in Gansu Province, where the family's hometown is located.

The girl and her mother were stunned by Yang Qinji's death. They were back from Hong Kong to Shenzhen Wednesday night but refused to claim the father's body, citing money and heartbreak as the reasons.

Despite all of this, Yang Lijuan still wants to see Andy Lau and said she would be back to Hong Kong again to fulfill her father's last will.

Most Chinese people were angry with the girl after learning the news, which soon became the hottest headline across China. Netizens poured their anger and sympathy upon the daughter while a batch of Chinese stars accepted interviews and asked their fans to be rational and think twice before taking any extreme action.

Li Zixun, a well-known Chinese psychologist, told Chongqing Times that the family must be paranoiac to take these extreme actions, while professor and sociologist Zhou Xiaozheng with Renmin University of China said the case only represents an individual case of psychosis in the fan.

But Chinese critic Zhang Ruoyu said the incident might hint at the possible culture crisis for Chinese society in the entertainment era. When stars like Andy Lau have become the spiritual comforts for some hearts, people should realize that humanity is suffering.

Dragon Statue in Central China Sparks Controversy



壮举? The construction of a 21-km-long concrete and marble dragon along the ridge of a mountain near a national forest in central China's Henan Province has become a controversial national issue. The local government has sent an environmental protection team to inspect the project site, in order to decide whether or not to terminate it before it causes damage to the national forest areas.

东方风云榜给谁发奖我并不在乎,但我看到了王筝唱歌。事实上,她还拿到了奖,致谢时,她直说没想到。

中文歌我本来就不常听,唯一搭着别人听过的几首,还被发现有抄袭,你说有什么想头?但让我从去年一直听到今年,听到今天的,就有那么一张专辑,那就是王筝的《我们都是好孩子》。

我都不太记得是怎么在茫茫音乐世界里找到这张唱片的。似乎是在网上乱点,点到一个网页,看到这个女生的造型挺可爱,然后就顺便听了听她的歌。谁知道一听以后,就欲罢不能,把她已出的两张专辑都down下来。最后,干脆又去买了她两张正版碟以表支持。后来了解了才知道,她还是会独立创作的才女,写知性的文字,于是更加喜欢。

在她第一张唱片里,她玩了美声,玩了技巧,温柔和激烈都有过。《春风》一度让人惊讶。换了唱片公司后,去年3月出炉了《我们都是好孩子》,整张唱片安静清新,娓娓讲起了心情的故事。

用一个词评价这张专辑的话,那就是:动听。小柯的编曲行云流水的。这年头,能找到一张从头到尾都动听的唱片,还真难。

《我们都是好孩子》不会改变中国的音乐现状,也跟经典和伟大无关。这是一个歌者写的唱的一首首生活小品,用心在忆,勾勒着美好时光中的快乐与忧伤。跟随着旋律和歌词,你的眼前不禁会浮现出一幅幅老照片似的画面,里面甚至近似地记录着我们的青春、天真和单纯,比如那时“在操场上奔跑/大声喊/我爱你/你知不知道”。

这张唱片是如此的干净,又是如此的伤感,从长笛、弦乐到钢琴奏鸣,从北欧风情到Bossa Nova,从校园民谣到Carpenters似的怀旧经典再到那英似的悲情流行,王筝在她的歌曲里扮演着一个又一个角色,至始至终都只关乎于一个主题:爱情。

是啊,多俗的主题啊。可《我们都是好孩子》却是那样的脱俗。

幸福的,苦恋的,失去的,错过的,分离的,幽怨的,绝望的。都是爱情的酸甜苦辣。唱片本的内页里,每首歌词上方还有王筝自己记下的一些东西,或是心情,或是故事,不管真实与否,都凭添滋味,足以让某些感性的人满脸是泪。尤其是当孤独地坐在夜深人静中品听的时候。

因为《我们都是好孩子》是一张雕刻时光的唱片。如同偶遇。轻轻唱起。

想起前不久,我在老狼新出的专辑《北京的冬天》里听到了新版的《想把我唱给你听》。小柯同学太坏了,一稿多投。(当然,这伙人其实是一起的)。该曲的原始版在《我们都是好孩子》专辑里,是王筝、小柯和曹芳一起唱的。这里,是老狼和王婧唱。听过后,只想问,唱过《同桌的你》的老狼去哪里了?终于走出校园去了吗?

我们都是好孩子啊。曾经。

First Test Case for Newly Approved Property Law?

当中国最牛的钉子户在屋顶上飘扬起国旗的时候,很多人都认为这成为了一个象征。然而象征什么呢?个人维护合法权利?弱势群体决绝地对抗政府和“奸商”?还是检验中国的宪法和法律究竟是不是真的?或者仅仅是,一场被媒体肆意炒做的大戏?

有人甚至说:其实这家人肯定是有背景的,不然在中国,怎么可能坚持这么久?

曾经听过一个传说,称英国某个钉子户老太婆,因为补偿金问题没有谈好,就拒不让政府修的煤气管道从她房子中央经过,最后她在法律框架下取得了胜利,管道只得绕着走。一时间,这被当作西方“私有财产神圣不可侵犯”的经典案例传诵,令无数中国人羡煞。

须知中国人都住在公有地皮上修的房子里,“租”期70年,即便新《物权法》规定届满可以自动续租;须知还有很多人曾经以包括自焚在内的极端方式抗争过拆迁和非法拆迁,却最终妥协或失败。这次,你可以不一定要支持这家最牛的钉子户,而钉子户也不一定真的有理(虽然新闻报道和网民支持给他们壮了胆),但有想法的人总可以借题发挥,倾出很多郁闷的心情。

而且,由于那个烂房子目前的造型实在是太好玩,真的是如同大海中的孤岛,于是,这事儿也就演变成了一个好不热闹的娱乐现象。

让我们静观其变。

A house that has occupied land on a construction site in Jiulongpo District, Chongqing Municipality, for the last two years is now at the center of a legal wrangle between its owners and the Chongqing District Court. On Monday, the court ordered the occupants of the house to vacate it by Thursday, after which the house was to be pulled down. However, the house was reportedly still standing as of Friday.

The owners of the house have vowed to defend their rights to their property at all costs. In a melodramatic show of their conviction, they flew the national flag.

The case has caused a major stir in academic and civic circles. Photos of the two-story house are being circulated on the Internet after an anonymous netizen uploaded them in early March. The family that owns and lives in the house has even earned for itself the title of "the greatest dingzihu in China".

"Dingzihu" describes people who refuse to vacate their premises, in spite of government orders, until they are assured of adequate compensation from either the government or property developers wanting to use their land.

In this particular case, there are plans to build a large business center on the land. Two hundred and eighty other families moved out of their houses soon after construction started in September 2004. All their houses were subsequently torn down.

This one remaining house now stands on its own atop a 20-meter-high mound in the middle of a gigantic construction site. A sales representative with Weilian Real Estate Company, the developers of the project, said that the second phase of the building project has already started.

Yang Wu, the 51-year-old owner of the house, had reportedly asked for 20 million yuan (US$2.56 million) in compensation from the developers, according to the Southern Metropolis Daily.

Yang's wife, Wu Ping, told China Central Television that this was totally untrue.

"We didn't ask for that amount of money. We only hoped to be compensated with a same-sized apartment at the original location on the same floor and with same exposure to the sun, as well as a temporary residence and shop space," Wu said. The developers have reportedly not given the Yangs what they want.

A famous snack street stood on the current site years ago. Wu's family used to run a restaurant business from home. Wu added that they used to make thousands of yuan a year until 1993, when they found out that the area was to be cleared.

Nearby residents told reporters that the house has been uninhabited since September 2004, but Wu explained this was because the developers cut off their water and electricity supply.

Authorities have reportedly said that the Yangs' demand was neither in accordance with the law nor realistic. The developers claim that numerous negotiations with the Yang family have come to naught.

Wang Wei, manager of the development department, told Shenzhen Daily that Wu would not sign any agreement although she was aware of the conditions that the developers were willing to offer. "We've now invested 300 million yuan (US$38.79 million) into the project. We will suffer huge losses if this matter remains deadlocked." 

The house is estimated to be worth about 2.47 million yuan (US$319,414). The developers reportedly promised the family 3.5 million yuan (US$452,612) in order to entice them to move out sooner. The Jiulongpo district house regulator ruled on January 11 that the family would receive a house in another area after they moved out. Wu ignored the ruling, which prompted the regulator to apply for an order to have the house demolished.

Ren Qiuping, the director of Jiulongpo District's relocation department, said the family should defend their rights but should not ask for more than what is reasonable by law. "They asked for a same-sized apartment at the original location on the same floor and with same exposure to the sun, which is impossible. And no law can guarantee this for them. And according to the city's plans, a shopping mall will be built where their house now stands, each floor covering 5,000 square meters. It is not possible to give the huge space to them since their house is only 219 square-meters. We have provided them with several alternatives, all of which they have rejected. We don't know why."

Flying the national flag has come to represent a defense of civil rights. In addition to flying the flag high, the Yangs brandished certificates, law books and copies of statutes, including the Constitution of the People's Republic of China. Wu said: "We don't want to be 'dingzihu', but we will compromise our legal rights. We have been fighting this for three years!"

She also claimed that the court order was illegal. "The Constitution and the latest Property Law protect private property ownership. They said they were going to demolish our house because it is in the public interest. But they are going to build a shopping center, which has nothing to do with the public interest! It is a business move, and what the court ruling protects are the developers' interests!

"We only want justice... all I want is to negotiate with the developers in a fair environment," She added.

However, Professor Jiang Ping, the former president of China University of Political Science and Law who led the team that drafted the newly approved Property Law, refuted Wu's claims. "She is not in a position to judge what is or isn't in the public interest," he told China.org.cn. "If the compensation is legal and reasonable, they should move out; if they don't think so, they may file lawsuits and take this issue to court."

 

谁TMD给中国时装周做的PR翻译?


中国国际时装周都快完了。我还在为这个事情做我的英文专题。新华的网站上有个简单的图片集,但不是很好,我们这边做的这个要漂亮得多。中文专题是各大网站早就有了,可英文专题却基本上没有人去做。我也是昨天才临时想起的,因为看到我们的记者这次拍了很多漂亮的照片回来,这些资源不用实在是可惜。

活动办得似乎还行。从小到大,从国内到国际,都十年了,发展成了这个样子。还要开庆祝会的。明星也去了些。据我们的记者回来说,这次外国媒体也去了不少,路透、法新、美联什么的,看来国外也挺关注。不过呢,我翻了翻大会发的资料,才发现这次组委会给做的英文翻译可给咱中国人丢脸了——这都好意思配送在官方材料里发出去么?国内媒体是好糊弄,可外国记者呢?想想他们看到后该多么的惊奇。

他奶奶的,都译成了什么玩艺儿啊?我真想知道是谁做的翻译,然后抽他一顿,让你丫的在学校里不好好念书……其实呢,我是本想偷懒,就直接用上一些现成的材料到我的专题里,主要靠图片来撑就行,结果发现全然不行,这懒是偷不了了。今天把稿子交给外国专家改,让专家直吐血,吐了一天,超过了“对穿肠”同志的记录,改了一天才改几段,然后全部发回给我让我帮忙重新写一遍先,不然好多内容她看都看不懂。其中不是句子成分不完整就是意思模糊,还有大小写乱搞的。结果我整这个就整了一天。

后来中文部的同事告诉说,原本她看到这回材料里附带上了英文,不知有多兴奋呢,觉得举办时装周的那伙人终于有点靠谱了。结果,要我说,还不如不让他们做这个翻译呢。满篇都是中式英语,许多地方不知所云。我承认中文的确是美丽,但硬套成英文,那会死人的!看来,至少目前,组委会就压根没有重视过对外报道这一块,而外国媒体当然也不会使用中国组委会写的官方稿子——要说的只是,面子工程都没做好,是豆腐渣啊。

Ⅱ. New Talents Coming through Fashion Education and Practice

To train professional talents and select new fashion designers is not only the important responsibility for China Fashion Week serving industry innovation and brand development, but also the outstanding achievement made by enterprises and fashion brands. In the past years, China Fashion Association has attached high importance to the training and selection of professional talents. Many contests organized by CFA are not only the focus of fashion industry and society, but also the center for fashion talents. The contests not only exhibit the unique creation and talent of the young designers, but also show the social corporate responsibility of famous enterprises. 3 design contests finals will be held in China Fashion Week: HEMPEL AWARD the 15th China International Young Fashion Designer Contest, HOSA CUP the 4th China Swimwear Design Contest and QIPAI CUP China Costume Creation Contest.

China Fashion Week, which has been held for 10 years, is not only the international stage for the fashion brands and designers domestic and abroad, but also the world window for mutual exchange of fashion education, as well as the great launch pad for fashion institutes works shows and excellent graduates recommendation.
